Celebrate the 4th with a Great American Roadtrip! Or at least a local, socially-distanced one. š
We called our Delta neighbors to confirm what's open along Blues Highway 61 this weekend:
MEMPHIS: š¤ National Civil Rights Museum & Elvis Presley's Graceland are open! Appt suggested. šµ Sun Studio is first-come basis. Beale Street has reopened for live music, and of course great bbq is everywhere. š¤ The Peabody Memphis lobby Duck Walks are every day at 11a & 5p: ducks don't take holidays.
ROBINSONVILLE: yep, #hiddengem š The Hollywood Cafe is where "Muriel played piano every Friday at the Hollywood..." and it's actually open on July 4th! 11a-7p. If you were just Walking in Memphis, you'll recall this is where Mark Cohen got his mojo back when he "played with all my might. She said, 'Tell me are you a Christian, child?' and I said, ma'am I am tonight!"
TUNICA: The Gateway to the Blues and casinos, of course! š²
HELENA: Welcome to Arkansas! Detour just 20min for a great Mississippi River walk, and multiple Civil War sites for safe, outdoor self-guided tours. āļø The Arkansas Welcome Center at Helena-West Helena is right across the bridge and open July 4th for personalized recommendations. š Grab a picnic to-go from The Helena Tavern, and enjoy the BEST VIEWS from "Battery C" overlooking downtown and the Delta. š
CLARKSDALE: šµ Live blues, 365 nights a year: The Bad Apple Blues Club is open with "Big T" Williams both Fri+Sat, and Libby Rae Watson, Hambone Willie & Lightnin Malcolm are playing at the The Shack Up Inn courtyard 6:30-7:30p on July 4th. āļø Free GPS-enabled downtown audio tour introduces you to over 20 locals linking our past+present -- either walking or from your air-conditioned car, at safe social distance: VisitClarksdale.com/tour āļø Shared Experiences USA offers in-person experiences this weekend by appointment. š Tons of restaurants listed at Visit Clarksdale: dine in or take out. š± AND the iconic Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Arts is open 11a-4p Sat.
TALLAHATCHIE: Take the free Emmett Till Interpretive Center's Civil Rights Driving Tour: it's another cool new app for socially-distanced travel. Search "Emmett Till Memory Project" on the app store. š¤
DOCKERY: Dockery Farms has a video and music feature that's also DIY, 24 hours a day. āļø
CLEVELAND: The Delta Meat Market is open for Saturday brunch! And Airport Grocery, Cleveland MS is open 11a-9p Sat & 5-9p Sun. š
GREENWOOD: Museum of the Mississippi Delta is open Saturday, and "The Help" driving tour is also DIY 24hrs from Greenwood Convention & Visitors Bureau. āļø And of course we love Martin Tribble and our friends at the Old Time Farmer's Market who offer both plants and fresh local produce. š»š
